Pump

A pump is a device that moves fluids (liquids or gases), or sometimes slurries, by mechanical action. Pumps can be classified into three major groups according to the method they use to move the fluid: direct lift, displacement, and gravity pumps.

Pumps operate by some mechanism (typically reciprocating or rotary), and consume energy to perform mechanical work by moving the fluid. Pumps operate via many energy sources, including manual operation, electricity, engines, or wind power, come in many sizes, from microscopic for use in medical applications to large industrial pumps.

Mechanical pumps serve in a wide range of applications such as pumping water from wells, aquarium filtering, pond filtering and aeration, in the car industry for water-cooling and fuel injection, in the energy industry for pumping oil and natural gas or for operating cooling towers. In the medical industry, pumps are used for biochemical processes in developing and manufacturing medicine, and as artificial replacements for body parts, in particular the artificial heart and penile prosthesis.

Pump (skateboarding)

Pumping is a skateboarding technique used to accelerate without the riders' feet leaving the board. Pumping can be done by turning or on a transition, like a ramp or quarter pipe. When applied to longboards, it is also known as Long distance skateboard pumping or LDP. Pumping is a technique similar to pumping a surfboard.

Transition

Transition pumping can only be done when there is a slope differential between the front and rear wheels. That is to say, it can only be done at the top and bottom of any ramp, but can be done through the entire pipe. The rider should actually push downward on the truck with the greatest slope under the wheels. On the top of a ramp the front wheels should be pushed, and at the bottom the rear trucks should be pushed. On a pipe the weight should be applied to the rear truck throughout the entire transition.

Slalom

Flatland pumping is essentially carving with the proper amount of weight application in order to gain momentum. It involves shifting one's weight in sync with the board's movements in order to gain momentum, like pivoting, but with all four wheels on the ground. By keeping the proper timing, the proper foot position, and the proper set up, one can yield great results.

Jumping (Kara song)

"Jumping" (ジャンピン, Janpin) is the second Japanese single by the South Korean girl group Kara. It was released on November 10, 2010. The single was eventually certified as Platinum for cell-phone digital downloads, and Gold for PC downloads by the RIAJ.

A Korean version was also released and included as the lead title song for the group's fourth mini-album titled Jumping, which was released in South Korea on November 17, 2010.

Background

On September 29, 2010, it was announced that Kara will be releasing their second single entitled "Jumping" on November 10, 2010. It was also said to be a brand-new song that will have an exclusive Japanese single release. "Jumping" was also chosen as the new theme song for Fuji TV's Saturday morning news and information program, Mezamashi Saturday. It was also revealed that the song and concept for "Jumping" was inspired by the anime movie, "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time". The song also served as a promotion for KDDI's "au Santa's Challenge."

Jumpin' (Liberty X song)

"Jumpin'" is a song recorded by English-Irish pop group Liberty X. It was released in the United Kingdom via CD single and digital download on 20 October 2003 as the second single from their second studio album, Being Somebody (2003). The song was co-written by singer-songwriter Lucie Silvas, Charlie Russell and Mike Peden. It has an up-tempo R&B sound and was showcased during Liberty X's sold-out arena tour in early 2003, quickly becoming a fan favourite.

The song debuted and peaked at number six on the UK Singles Chart. It also charted at number 16 on the Irish Singles Chart, number 78 on the Australian Singles Chart, number 55 on the Dutch Singles Chart and number 56 on the French Singles Chart.

Background

"Jumpin'" was one of the first songs to be recorded by Liberty X following the release of their debut studio album, Thinking It Over. The single was highly popular amongst fan circles and DJs alike, with a number of remixes appearing on the second physical single release. It was also the band's first single not to be released on Cassette, following the decline of the format that began in July 2003. The single also included two B-sides: "It Helps", a brand new track penned by band member Tony Lundon, and a remix of one of the band's former B-sides, "Never Meant to Say Goodbye".
